On the 12th of May 2022, the YIELD Trust team met with the FEPA team for a field visit to witness the work YIELD Trust has been doing in advocacy, leadership, and network-building for young people in Bulawayo and Matebeleland South.
Fund for Development and Partnership in Africa (FEPA) is a Swiss Not-for-Profit Organisation supporting a broad and varying range of community-based partner organisations in Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa to develop and implement locally devised, innovative and sustainable programs. Since the past year, FEPA has partnered with YIELD Trust for the Youth Advisory Council, a project that trained young people and women from Bulawayo peri-urban areas as City of Bulawayo shadow councillors; and for the Women’s Summit which shared women’s experiences in male-dominated and male-controlled workspaces.
The FEPA visit started in Harare as they met another YIELD Trust partner YETT Zimbabwe, and then came to Bulawayo where they were welcome and hosted by the YIELD Trust team. The team also visited the gender champion and City of Bulawayo councillor Cllr Sikhululekile Moyo to share the experience and results of her work and the work of the Youth Advisory Council in her ward. During the field visit, the delegation discussed several issues with the YIELD Trust team including ways of leadership capacitation for young people and supporting youth and women to improve their livelihoods and civic engagement.
The YIELD Trust team was led by Nompilo Nkomo and Thandokuhle Sibanda and the FEPA team was led by Ueli Haller and Barbara Müller-Frei.
YIELD Trust would like to extend its utmost gratitude to the people at FEPA and looks forward to a long-lasting relationship.
